Vodafone Sells 50,000 iPhones in 24 Hrs

On Thursday Vodafone sold more than 50,000 iPhones according to The Independent. These numbers where actually unexpected by many because of the success Orange has already had with the iPhone in the UK whose exclusive agreement with Apple expired in 2009. Apparently each additional carrier DOES matter to Apple’s bottom-line. Could this be a sign of things to come in the United States.

Rogers Offering HTC Dream Upgrade Free

It’s not very often that carriers do something that actually surprises us, but the latest move from Rogers Wireless has surprised in the most positive way. Rogers is currently offering an HTC Dream absolutely free to customers wanting to upgrade their existing hardware.

This deal will be available from January 12th 2010 through till January 26th. You will need to sign a new 3 year deal but nothing more. You will also have to call Rogers customer service because this offer isn’t available in any of their stores. Rogers is even waiving the $79 upgrade fee as well as the $35 admin fee it normally charges for upgrades. This is a deal a few people in our Canadian office plan to take advantage of.

Nokia N900 Second Firmware Update

Sonim XP1 The ‘Unbreakable’ Cell Phone

Apparently at CES 2010 Bob Plaschke CEO of Sonimtech told reporter Dan Simmons that the Sonim XP1 was completely unbreakable and that it had been subjected to every possible stress test. He even went so far as to tell Dan “If you find a way to break it, we’re going to give you a free phone.”

After submerging the phone in a fish tank to no avail, Dan repeatedly smashed the phone on the sharp corner of the tank. On the third smash the screen cracked and Bob Plaschke was shocked. “You’ve actually broken the phone. That’s impressive. That’s absolutely impressive.” After that he probably asked Dan where he would like his very strong but not unbreakable phone sent.
